Getting ready for the winter

Fall 2021
Fall 2021

Fall 2021

Hi Everyone:

First blog ever......
As we are getting ready for winter, here in Quebec Canada, I thought it would be important to speak about alpacas and their health. For the last couple of years , I've noticed an increase in parasites and the problems they bring including death, especially in the young crias.
The summer goes by nice and smoothly but when we hit September-October and the cold start to kick in, I've noticed the weight curve starts to slow down on some of the young crias or no weight gain at all.
I've decided to be a lot more vigilant this year in early fecal testing especially on the crias and this allows me to be more pro-active in dealing with parasites that are stoping the progression of the cria and also avoiding death.
We weigh the crias every two weeks. We check their progress and their health and at the same time they receive orally their AD& E shot.
So far, so good.
I want to wish a Happy Remembrance day to all our Canadian soldiers and all the soldiers around the world who with their devotions brings peace.
